Answer immigration calls in the moment deadlines and status are on the line.

Who calls, and why does it matter?

Immigration callers are frequently facing a filing deadline, a court date, or a family member in detention, and many are calling with limited English proficiency or on behalf of a relative. Fear of an outcome affecting their ability to stay in the country runs through almost every call.

Immigration deadlines, whether a visa expiration, an asylum filing window, or a detention hearing, do not extend for a slow response. Missing the first call can mean missing the only window to act.

What does the agent ask?

  • What is the caller's current immigration status?
  • What type of matter is this (asylum, family petition, removal proceedings, visa, naturalization)?
  • Is there an upcoming court date or filing deadline?
  • What country is the caller from?
  • Has the caller filed any applications before, and were any denied?
  • Is anyone involved currently in detention?
  • What language does the caller prefer for the consult?

What does it capture for conflict and eligibility checks?

For family-based petitions, capture the names of all family members involved, since a conflict can arise when the firm has an adverse relationship with a sponsoring or opposing family member in a related matter.

Questions about immigration intake

Can the agent take a call in Spanish or another language?

The agent notes the caller's preferred language during intake so the firm can match them with the right attorney or interpreter for the consult.

What if a family member is calling about someone in detention?

The agent takes the intake from the family member, noting the relationship and the detained person's information, and flags it as time-sensitive.

Does the agent give an opinion on someone's chances of approval?

No. It collects the facts of the matter so an attorney can evaluate it. It does not predict outcomes or give immigration advice.

What if the caller already has an attorney?

The agent asks whether the caller currently has representation on this matter and notes the answer for the firm.
